The first thing to say is: don’t wait till the last minute! Years ago there were an abundance of amazing last minute deals. However after people started to miss out on sailing holidays because they waited too late and missed the holiday altogether or they ended up paying twice as much for flights, they began to book earlier and earlier.

Most often booking a sailing holiday 10-12 months in advance can also save you money in the long term. You might be lucky and get 20% or 30% off your charter if you book last minute, but the flights can easily be over 50% higher and there are some great early booking discounts available in September.

Below are a few key months for flotillas and beach clubs in the Med:

May early season get away – May is generally a quieter month so at the moment you can book between anytime until the end of March or even early April.

Summer Holiday (July/August) – It’s best to book between September and January/February to guarantee your holiday, any later and you might miss the best flotillas, courses or resorts

September Cruise – September is one of the most popular months with some of the best sailing conditions, but fewer families for couple to enjoy. Being so popular you do have to book in advance, no later than May or June.

October season Finale –  with slightly colder evening October bookings are popular because they are cheap, but you can leave the booking fairly late, until August or September.

When looking to book a sailing holiday, whether it’s your first or hundredth, be sure to charter with the right guys. You are about to potentially spend thousands of pounds so you want to know your money is secure. Look for industry membership, such as the British Marine Federation and the Marine Leisure Association. But most importantly look for T-Atol or Atol, if you can get TTA and/or ABTA then that is a real bonus.
